Meet Jason

Jason Melendez is a dedicated legislative staffer and political organizer based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Currently serving as the Legislative and Political Director for Delegate Katrina Callsen, Jason manages legislative affairs, political strategy, and campaign operations, helping Delegate Callsen achieve a stellar first legislative session in 2024. Jason is the youngest, full-time legislative staffer serving a member of the Virginia General Assembly.

A seasoned political organizer, Jason played a pivotal role in helping Democrats take back the majority in Virginia during the 2023 campaign as an organizer on Delegate Rodney Willett’s re-election campaign, managing volunteers and expanding field operations in one of Virginia’s most competitive House races.

Locally, Jason serves on the Charlottesville Human Rights Commission which advises City Council on matters of civil and human rights while also receiving complaints of discrimination in housing and employment on the basis of protected status.

Jason is deeply involved in Democratic Party efforts, serving in leadership roles with the Virginia Young Democrats, currently as Chair of the Black Caucus and Vice Chair of the City & County Caucus. With extensive experience in voter outreach, legislative support, and campaign management, Jason combines a passion for progressive policy with a proven track record of leadership and community impact.
